Art Periods - The Highlights

Origins

2012. San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Bold acrylic pigments have been present from the very beginning of my art journey. From 2012 through 2014, my artwork was characterized by warmer hues: inviting, happy, and vibrant. Colorful flowers from Mercado Guamilito, hot summer days, playful patters, sunsets at the beach, golden coffee beans, my hometown and its people are all at the heart of my inspiration.

My Heart in Nature

2014. Memphis, TN

“The Garden” is one of the most important pieces in my career. In it I capture my first impression as a Latina in the United States experiencing the change of seasons for the first time, and with it a different kind of flora. Bold acrylic pigments continue to be at the center of my work, but with introduction of glass beads and texture gels, I am able to tap into my playful nature and my desire to add further depth to my pieces. Over time I see my “flowers” as a pendulum ranging from simplicity of oil pastels on paper to mixed mediums on larger format canvases with nature around me as a common theme.

The Human Emotional Spectrum

April 2015 - Pollock and I

Springtime in New York City is when I met Pollock for the first time. I remember standing for what felt an eternity absorbing “Autumn Rhythm (Number 30)” in all its magnificence. I fell immediately in love with action art. Stepping outside my comfort zone of structured thought process, with action art I felt at home. I was able to finally express myself through free flow hand movements and capture the full spectrum of the human condition. I immersed myself in the concept of “controlled chaos”. As a visual storyteller, I lure the viewer with violent brushstrokes and unapologetic use of color to convey emotions.

Freedom in Ink and Paper

2019 - Present Day

With a sketchbook in my bag I am left free to wander and create. Action art is a predominant element in my ink on paper works. In my sketches I could lose myself for hours at a time.
